On July 21, 2010, President Barack Obama signed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which, in part, permanently raises the current standard maximum deposit insurance amount to $250,000. The standard maximum insurance amount of $100,000 had been temporarily raised to $250,000 until December 31, 2013. The FDIC insurance coverage limit applies per depositor, per insured depository institution for each account ownership category (see the full FDIC press release HERE).

We here at IFS found these new double wall sleeved mugs to be a idea to replace standard coffee cups or tumblers. They look like your typical coffee shop paper mugs (i.e. Starbucks), but are made out of porcelain. The lids and protective sleeves come in a variety of different colors.

More and more Chicago area financial institutions are tweeting, but most of them differ on how to best use the microblogging site. Jacob Jegher, a senior analyst for a banking and insurance consulting firm, says "There's such huge interest by financial institutions when it comes to social media....some of the smaller banks and credit unons have moved a lot faster than some of the other larger banks."

Updated Temporary Liquidity Guarantee Program Signage

On April 13, 2010, the FDIC adopted the interim final rule extending the Transaction Account Guarantee (TAG) component of the Temporary Liquidity Guarantee Program for six months, through December 31, 2010.
This sign notifies your customers that you participate in the transaction component of the Temporary Liquidity Guarantee Program (press release).
Beginning December 19, 2008, every insured depository institution that offers noninterest-bearing transaction accounts must post a prominent notice in the lobby of its main office and each branch, and, if it offers Internet services, on its website, clearly indicating whether or not the institution is participating in the transaction account guarantee program.
Sign reads: Our institution has elected to participate in the FDIC's Transaction Account Guarantee Program. Under that program, through December 31, 2010, all non-interest bearing transaction accounts are fully guaranteed by the FDIC for the entire amount in the account. Coverage under the Transaction Account Guarantee Program is in addition to and separate from the coverage available under the FDIC's general deposit insurance rules.

Requirements For Overdraft Services (Federal Reserve, Regulation E, Sec. 205.17)

There are new requirements from the Federal Reserve regarding Overdraft Protection on ATM withdrawals and Debit Card purchases. As of July 1st, 2010, you will need to have a signed opt-in/out form from your customers to continue their overdraft protection on those types of transactions. On November 10th, 2009,CUNA Strategic Services (CSS) announced that Panini would become the exclusive check scanner provider for credit unions. Independent Forms Services is an authorized distributor of Waffletechnology Check Scanner Cleaning Cards for the Panini X, My Visions X and i:Deal check scanners. These cleaning cards are approved by Panini to be the manufacturer's recommended cleaning product for their check scanners.

Funds Availability Policy - 2nd Business Day Signage

In accordance with Federal Regulation CC, here are two signs that inform your customer of the policy regarding their rights to draw funds against deposits they have made to any transaction account at your institution. The Funds Availability Policy sign reads:
"Our general policy is to allow you to withdraw funds deposited in your account on the second business day after the day we receive your deposit. Funds from electronic direct deposits will be available on the day we receive the deposit. In some cases, we may delay your ability to withdraw funds beyond the second business day. Then, the funds will generally be available by the fifth business day after the day of the deposit."

CDC Recommends Using Antibacterial Hand Sanitizer to Combat Spreading of H1N1 Flu

FDIC Coverage Extended through December 31, 2013

As of May 20, 2009, the FDIC has extended the standard insurance of $250,000 through December 31, 2013.
“The standard insurance amount of $250,000 per depositor is in effect through December 31, 2013. On January 1, 2014, the standard insurance amount will return to $100,000 per depositor for all account categories except IRA’s and other certain retirement accounts, which will remain at $250,000 per depositor.”

Beginning December 19, 2008, every insured depository institution that offers noninterest-bearing transaction accounts must post a prominent notice in the lobby of its main office and each branch, and, if it offers Internet services, on its website, clearly indicating whether or not the institution is participating in the transaction account guarantee program. If the institution is participating in the transaction account guarantee program, the notice must also state that funds held in noninterest-bearing transactions accounts at the entity are insured in full by the FDIC. These disclosures must be provided in simple, readily understandable text. Until December 19, 2008, the institution should provide in a commercially reasonable manner adequate disclosures of the substance of these required disclosures.
